Job Description 
Industrial Hygiene Consultant 2 
Starting Hourly/Salary Rate:   $31.50 to $36.50 per hour
Estimated Annual Compensation:  $63,000 to $73,000 per year

Position Summary  
The Industrial Hygienist Consultant 2 (IHC2) position will be responsible for conducting and coordinating healthAIR Team field projects, drafting and peer review of technical reports, site inspections, and other environmental services.  Consultant 2 will develop and learn the skills needed to develop new projects, new clients, and develop budgets and proposals. Consultant 2 will also assist team members to develop the skills needed to complete site inspections, prepare reports, assist with AHERA management activities, and manage and document projects. 
 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversight and coordination of hA Team field projects: 
  • Implement and monitor scope of work 
  • Review projects and prepare proposals and estimates. 
  • Coordination of project activities with clients and contractors. 
  • Draft and revise technical reports for hA Team Projects. 
  • Draft and revise project specifications and reading construction blueprints. 
  • Conduct peer review of reports for hA Team Projects. 
  • Conduct asbestos project air monitoring activities, as needed based on team scheduling needs. 
  • Conduct research/education required for compliance and routine updates of strategies, sampling methods and interpretations for IAQ/Mold work. 
  • Conduct routine inspections ensuring thorough and accurate documentation with inspection forms. 
  • Provide effective client services through proactive outreach and effective communication to ensure project success. 
  • Other duties as assigned.  
Experience, Academic Requirements, Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science related discipline and 5+ years of full-time work experience with asbestos, lead, and/or industrial hygiene inspections, air monitoring, and project oversight. - or - High School diploma, GED or equivalent and 7+ years of full-time work experience with asbestos, lead, and/or industrial hygiene inspections, air monitoring, and project oversight. 
  • 4+ years of relevant experience with AHERA inspections/management plans preferred. 

Possession of the following certifications or accreditations required:
  • NIOSH7400 Methodology certification and 3+ years of related experience. 
  • State of Michigan Accredited Asbestos Inspector with 4+ years of relevant inspection experience. - or - State of Michigan Accredited Lead Inspector with 4+ years of relevant inspection experience. 
  • Must hold one or more of the following accreditations/credentials with 1+ years of relevant experience: State of Michigan Asbestos Project Designer, State of Michigan Asbestos Management Planner, State of Michigan Accredited Lead Risk Assessor, Certified Indoor Air Quality Consultant 
  • Certification/Training in intermediate IAQ/Mold and industrial hygiene sampling strategies.

  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment, in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures. 
  • Ability and desire to work in the field with varying hours and shifts. 
  • A willingness to occasionally modify personal schedules as required to meet project deadlines and/or client needs. 
  • Desire to learn and grow in the environmental consulting field. 
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours as required to complete projects. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites primarily in southeastern Michigan, but occasionally throughout the state. 
  • At least two (2) years or more of successful and progressive experience as an Industrial Hygienist Consultant 1 (or similar position with another company) with a proven track record of mastering current role duties and an understanding of all critical functions within the current role. 
  • Knowledge of and at least five (5) or more years of experience in adhering to asbestos, lead, and/or industrial hygiene regulations and professional standards within a project management scope. 
  • Knowledge of and at least five (5) or more years of experience in adhering to asbestos, lead, and/or industrial hygiene sampling strategies and techniques within a project management scope.  
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience for at least five (5) or more years using field equipment, calibrations, and maintenance of asbestos and/or lead equipment. 
  • Proven ability in demonstrating our core values of safe, compliant, and timely in the management and completion of projects and task assignments. 
  • Demonstrated proficiencies in overall project management activities with a desire to learn, grow and accept additional responsibilities.  
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally represent AEG. 
  • Demonstrated skills in effective written and oral communication with contractors and internal team members. 
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage daily activities with limited management oversight of project schedules required, displaying role independence and autonomy in all successfully completed project activities. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of all AEG services with proven experience in assisting with client requests or service needs.  
  • Proven abilities with client facing activities to include effective written and oral communication, problem solving clients and vendor’s project expectations. 
  • Proven capabilities with technical report writing. 
  • Intermediate understanding of project specification development, bidding procedures, and contract management. 
  • Experience with schedule coordination of healthAIR team field related activities. 
  • Intermediate understanding and experience with computers and common software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat or similar PDF programs. 

Position Conditions:
  • Candidate must pass a medical surveillance that includes drug screening and respiratory function testing in order to operate in respirator-controlled environments. 
  • Physical capability to wear a respirator for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to lift up to occasionally 50 pounds. 
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and safe driving record. 
  • Personal vehicle use for travel to/from project site is expected
